PhD Candidate
Leona Dowman is a senior exercise physiologist in the pulmonary rehabilitation program at Austin Health. She recently completed her PhD in 'Therapeutic interventions in interstitial lung disease. Exercise training and supplemental oxygen'. For her PhD she led a multiāsite randomised controlled trial which defined the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation for ILD across disease subgroups. Leona Dowman currently holds a postdoctoral position La Trobe University. Her main role will be to develop and conduct a randomised controlled trial comparing the clinical benefits of a high intensity interval training protocol to the standard continuous exercise training method used in pulmonary rehabilitation in people with fibrotic interstitial lung disease. Through IBAS, she is currently working on a feasibility trial of water-based exercise training in connective tissues related interstitial lung disease.
