Congratulations to Professor David Berlowitz, Dr Marnie Graco, and Dr Nicole Sheers who were recognised by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Australia at a Parliament House event sponsored by the Parliamentary Friends of MND in Canberra last week.
The event honoured 30 leaders in the MND field in recognition of MND Australia's 30th anniversary on Global MND Day.

David was amongst a select group of community activists, clinicians, and researchers who were presented with lifetime achievement awards.
David was cited for, “building a team dedicated to championing research around respiratory support.”
David shares, “Every day in Australia, two people are diagnosed with MND and two people succumb to the disease. Our research and clinical care collaboration at Austin Hospital is working to support those with MND, their families and friends, to improve survival, reduce burden, and to pass MND into history.”
“It was a great honour to be recognised by Motor Neuron Disease Australia in this way, especially as the citation recognised the team based here on the Austin campus. The Victorian Respiratory Support Service within the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, the University of Melbourne, the Institute for Breathing and Sleep, Austin Physiotherapy, and Austin Health more broadly, have all provided long term support for the research we collectively undertake, especially our MND respiratory care research.”

Nicole chairs the MND Collective Clinical Care driving team which Marnie and David sit on. Additionally, Marnie sits on the Lived Experience Expert driving team, David on the Discovery Research one, and Nicole is a MND Research Collaborative board member.
This recognition underscores the unwavering commitment and the significant contributions made by David, Marnie and Nicole in the fight against MND. Their dedication to research, clinical care, and advocacy exemplifies the collaborative spirit necessary to make strides in understanding and treating MND.
Congratulations from all of us at Austin Health!
