Championing Sleep Research!

Charissa Zaga and Jessy Manousakis

We are announcing exciting updates to our Early and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) representation at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep (IBAS).  The Melbourne Sleep Research Committee (MSRC) extends its gratitude to Charissa Zaga for her outstanding involvement.

Charissa serves as a Senior Speech Pathologist and Acute Stream Leader at Austin Health, alongside her role as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Implementation Science Unit at IBAS. Her vital research program includes developing the "Communication with an Artificial airway Tool" (C-AsT) and improving clinical outcomes for critically ill patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation. We highly value her expertise in implementation science and multidisciplinary interventions. Thank you, Charissa, for your dedication.

Welcome, Jessica Manousakis

We are also thrilled to welcome Jessica Manousakis as our new IBAS EMCR Representative. Jessy is a Senior Research Fellow leading the Applied Sleep and Neuroscience team at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep. Her research focuses on the impact of sleep on performance, cognition and brain health across the lifespan. She is strongly committed to research translation across scientific disciplines, clinical practice, and government policy, and her research has two major translational focuses: (1) sleep as a modifiable factor for healthy cognitive ageing and reducing dementia risk, and (2) development and validation of predictors and mitigation strategies for sleep-related motor vehicle crashes.  Jessica brings incredible energy to the committee, and we look forward to her fresh perspective supporting our researchers.
